So I officially decided to go to Umass! I'm quite excited. Not everyone shares the sentiment though. When I emailed BU to let them know I wasn't coming, I got a reply back which contained the following:


But overall I don't understand the logic. UMass is not ranked among the Group I research universities, although I hear that they've got a good group in number theory. I doubt that their graduates get the kinds of jobs that ours do. And then there's Boston, i.e., more mathematics per square inch than anywhere else in the world. Finally I wonder what is going to happen to UMass when the budget crisis for the State of MA starts to hit home in a big way.
